Prof. Javier Tardáguila

Founder of Televitis Group


Dr. Javier Tardaguila is Full Professor of Precision Viticulture at the University of La Rioja (Spain). Prof. Tardaguila works in precision viticulture, robotics and emerging technologies in grape growing. He was the Coordinator of VineRobot European project and currently he is the PI of NoPest H2020 project that explores new solutions to counteract oomycete infections in agriculture. He is involved in several European and national research projects in viticulture and new technologies. He also is the author of over 85 publications in indexed journals (h index =27). Prof. Tardaguila has been actively involved in the technological transfer to the wine industry in collaboration to several national and international companies. He is Associate Editor of “Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research”. Prof. Tardaguila has been Vice-president of Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of La Rioja.  

Dr. María Paz Diago

Associate Professor


María Paz Diago is Associate Professor of Viticulture at the University of La Rioja. She holds a PhD in Agricultural and Food Sciences and a Master of Science in Viticulture and Enology from the University of California, Davis (USA). With extensive international experience, her research focuses on precision viticulture and the application of non-invasive technologies for vineyard monitoring. She has participated in more than 22 European, national and regional research projects in viticulture. She is co-author of more than 90 publications in high-impact SCI journals and more than 80 contributions to national and international conferences (h-index: 24). She serves as an expert reviewer of R&D projects for the European Commission and various international research agencies. María Paz Diago is Vice-Director of the Institute of Grapevine and Wine Sciences (ICVV) and Head of the Department of Agriculture and Food at the University of La Rioja.

Dr. Juan Fernández Novales

Post-doctoral investigator


His main research tasks in the group are the spectral preprocessing and data analysis, along with the development and evaluation of quantitative and qualitative models in precision viticulture. Dr. Fernández is specialist in the application of NIRS technology and hyperspectral imaging in the agri-food field. Juan Fernández is PhD with European Doctorate Mention in Biosciences and Agri-Food Sciences. He obtained a Master of Viticulture and Agri-Food Science. He also owns a Bachelor in Technique Agricultural Engineering and Bachelor in Enology.

Ruben Iñiguez

PhD student


He completed his PhD at the Televitis research group of the University of La Rioja in the field of precision viticulture, focusing on the early detection of grapevine diseases and the estimation of yield components using machine learning techniques. His work has resulted in more than ten articles in indexed international scientific journals and more than ten contributions to international conferences. His current research activity focuses on the application of artificial intelligence and digital imaging for vineyard characterisation under field conditions. He holds a degree in Oenology and a Master's in Technology, Management and Innovation in Viticulture and Enology from the University of La Rioja.

Ignacio Barrio

Investigator


Specialised in advanced non-invasive sensing and the integration of technologies in precision viticulture, his current research focuses on the application of data science techniques for the non-invasive estimation of grape composition, within the framework of the national project HyperGrape. He has previously participated as a researcher in the European projects NoPest, VineRobot and VineScout. He is co-author of more than 20 publications in indexed international scientific journals and more than 10 contributions to international conferences. Ignacio Barrio holds a double degree in Mathematics and Computer Engineering and a Master's in Data Science from the University of La Rioja.

Aitana Tejada

PhD student


She is currently developing her PhD at the Televitis research group of the University of La Rioja in the field of precision viticulture, with a particular focus on the use of hyperspectral sensors for the analysis of grape composition. Her research activity is framed within advanced vineyard monitoring projects, and she has already contributed with communications at international conferences and scientific publications. Aitana Tejada holds a degree in Oenology and a Master's in Technology, Management and Innovation in Viticulture and Enology from the University of La Rioja. Inés Hernández holds a Degree in Computer Science (University of La Rioja) and a Master in Data Science and Computer Engineering with specialization in Data Science and Intelligent Technologies (University of Granada, Spain).
